Therapy in Colour
ARTIST STATEMENT
Therapy in Colour is a deeply personal collection of work that explores the raw, chaotic, and beautiful process of healing through mental illness. As someone living with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and CPTSD, I’ve used art as both an emotional outlet and a therapeutic lifeline. Each brushstroke carries a piece of my story, moments of pain, clarity, rage, hope, confusion, and joy.
This exhibit isn’t just meant to be seen. It’s meant to be felt. It invites you to sit with the uncomfortable, to connect with the misunderstood, and to reflect on your own emotional spectrum. With interactive prompts and kid-friendly elements, Therapy in Colour creates space for all ages to explore big feelings in a way that’s honest and safe.
I believe that vulnerability is strength, and art can be an act of resistance against stigma, silence, and shame. My hope is that this exhibit will inspire conversation, compassion, and deeper awareness during Mental Health Screening Month.
Meet the artist
Li is a neurodivergent artist, storyteller, and mental health advocate living in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario. Her work blends acrylics and mixed media to express the emotional realities of living with Borderline Personality Disorder and CPTSD. Through bold colour, layered textures, and evocative symbolism, Li transforms her inner chaos into visual narratives that invite others to connect and reflect.
She is the creator of Therapy in Colour, an interactive art exhibit designed to spark conversation, reduce stigma, and celebrate vulnerability. Li is also the voice behind “Unpack My BPD,” a growing platform where she shares personal insights, artwork, and advocacy to empower others navigating mental illness.
When she’s not painting or creating, she’s spending time with her daughter, Ali, or dreaming up her next big idea, always with an open heart and a touch of rebellion.
