The Art of Michel Ethier

A Visionary Journey

This December and January, Maman-Loup's is honoured to present the works Michel Ethier. A prolific and talented artist, Ethier’s work is a powerful and expressive exploration of his unique life and profound experiences.

The Artist's Perspective

Michel Ethier's artistic journey is a relatively recent, yet intensely productive, chapter. He states:

"I picked up a paintbrush and began my first creation in December 2019, a period when life seemed to hold a deeper sense of purpose. As I enter my seventh season with the brush, I have over 100 creations to my name. At 67 years young, I hold the ambition to reach 256 before I embark on another journey. I am entirely self-taught and continue to learn with every stroke."

Through a collection of vibrant, expressive, and whimsical pieces, Ethier invites us into a world born from this unique and dedicated perspective. His art transforms personal moments, philosophical beliefs, and life experiences into universal visions that profoundly resonate with the viewer.

Inspiration and Belief

Ethier's practice is one where his spiritual and personal beliefs often form the very soul of his creations, though he maintains a diverse thematic range.

His artistic lineage begins with Picasso, whose influence can be seen in the freedom of form and color, but he also credits Gin Lizzy as a source of ongoing inspiration. This blend of abstract mastery and contemporary wit results in a style that is uniquely his own.

Ethier's life outside the studio

As an ordained minister with the Church of the Universe since 1998 and a renowned advocate for the deregulation of cannabis legislation, informs the rebellious, spiritual, and deeply thoughtful nature of his work. His seasonal passion for gardening also speaks to a connection with nature and growth that is often evident in his vibrant palettes.

This is a must-see exhibit for anyone who appreciates art that tells a compelling story, blending raw creative expression with a profound life philosophy.
